Community Events

This page has reviews on movies, events, concerts, restaurants, etc. I would love to hear from you all as well if there is something in the community coming up or that you just want to share.

Western Idaho Fair:

August 16-25 in Boise, Idaho at the fairgrounds.  Yes, Yes, Yes, it is that wonderful time of the year again that makes me lick my lips... Fair time.  Gather your friends, family, and neighbors to head out for a really fun, usually hot, day at the fair.   From the looks of things there is a little something for everyone: escape artist, LivFast freestyle motocross, pig races and for those who love competition a women's skillet toss.  See the entire line up at www.idahofair.com/

Boise River:

I love the Treasure Valley, don't you?! If you don't yet, you should!  The Boise River is just one of the things I love about it.  On the main blog I wrote all about my death defying adventure floating on it with my sons and husband.  On this page I wanted to spend a bit more time describing some of the reasons why it is such a wonderful asset to our beautiful valley.

One of the most stunning reasons is, the Boise River Greenbelt that runs for more than 20 miles along the banks of the river. There are parks to enjoy, a wonderful Zoo, and beautiful scenery.  All of this is right in the middle of the city and stretches from Lucky Peak Dam all the way to Eagle Road (Map)!  What a wonderful get away for people of all ages to enjoy.

Next there's the River itself. In the Boise area you can float (during the approved season) in rafts, tubes, kayaks, etc. You can rent them from places like Epley's Boise River Rentals at Barber Park, or bring your own. Tube rentals generally run around $12 for 3 hours.  Plus there are even shuttles available so you can repeat the float several times and not have to move your car.

For the more adventurous there is a wonderful whitewater park.  Or do like me and let your son drag you up to the south fork of the Boise river and hit the rapids section above Lucky Peak Dam and brave the terrors of rapids such as "Devil's Hole." It really is extremely beautiful up there as well and great fishing.  Here's a short video I found that shows an experience in Devil's Hole:

Yep, the Boise River is one of my favorite reasons to be proud to call the Treasure Valley home.  We have so many things to be grateful for here!

Movies:

It is so appropriate that the movie "Man of Steel" is opening this weekend. Just in time to honor those Super men in our own lives for Father's Day.  I wouldn't miss it would you?... And I am not just talking about the movie either!

Have you seen Star Trek: Into Darkness yet?  If not you have to go... today! It was everything I had hoped for and more.  Both the first one and this sequel have managed to capture so much of what was great about the original series, while continuing to "boldly go" in a new direction.  Not only do the characters manage to resemble the original cast, but also so much of the personalities we all came to love.  And I watched the original series when it aired... not just in reruns!

I hope you enjoy this film as much as I did.  Just to help get you in the spirit, here's the trailer:
